The German duo of Alex Cejka and Martin Kaymer hold a one-shot lead at golf's World Cup at Mission Hills after carding a combined ten-under-par first round.
In the fourball format, Cejka and Kaymer bettered the combined round of the Australian team, comprised of Richard Green and Brendan Jones, who signed for a nine-under-par 63.
Spain, Canada and the United States - represented by Miguel Angel Jimenez/Pablo Larrazabal; Graham Dalaet/Wes Heffernan; and Ben Curtis/Brandt Snedeker, respectively - all hold a share of third with eight-under first rounds.
So far the teams from the British Isles have struggled, however.
Reigning champions Scotland - represented by Colin Montgomerie and Alastair Forsyth - scored a distinctly average four-under-par 68, leaving them languishing in 16th out of the 28 teams.
The Irish duo of Graeme McDowell and Paul McGinley fared better with a seven-under-par first round to sit tied for sixth alongside Denmark, New Zealand and Sweden.
However, England's Ian Poulter and Ross Fisher shot a disappointing three-under-par 69 to go into the second round in a tie for 20th.
