Michael Jackson is to stage a remarkable comeback at a top music awards ceremony in London next week, organisers have revealed.
In his first stage performance since being acquitted by a US court over child abuse charges last year, the 48-year-old singer will perform his hit single Thriller at the World Music Awards, which are being held on November 15th at Earls Court.
"It's his first performance in a long time," said a spokeswoman for the awards.
"It's something of a comeback if you like," she added.
Organisers had already confirmed that Jackson, who has lived a reclusive life in Bahrain since his trial, would appear at the ceremony to accept a Diamond Award, which is given to artists who sell over 100 million records.
His performance of Thriller at the awards show coincides with the 25th anniversary of Jackson's hit album of the same name and, according to reports, the star is planning to re-create the iconic video he shot for the song, which featured a dancing troupe of 'zombies'.
"He will close the show with Thriller, a complete recreation of the video," a spokesman for the World Music Awards told the Sun newspaper.
Hopefully for Jackson's sake, his latest UK performance will not prove to be as disastrous as his 1999 appearance at the Brit awards, when British artist Jarvis Cocker attempted to embarrass the US star by invading the stage during his act.
A number of other leading artists including Beyonce, Mary J Blige and Katie Melua are also set to perform at the World Music Awards, which will be hosted by Hollywood actress Lindsay Lohan.
