Rascals aim to repeat Puppets' success
Collaborating with Arctic Monkeys' Alex Turner on the Last Shadow Puppets project may well provide the springboard for Miles Kane's band, the Rascals, to assault the mainstream.
Kane's teaming up with Turner on the acclaimed Age Of The Understatement album under the Shadow Puppets banner has drawn attention to the former's full-time band.
With their debut mini-album Rascalize out this month featuring new single Freakbeat Phantom, Kane and bandmates, drummer Greg Mighall and bassist Joe Edwards, unleash their dark, 60s-tinged indie pop.
Drummer Mighall says Rascalize truly reflects the band's sound as well as the diverse influences on their music which includes Mighall's liking for Krautrock, whereas bassist Edwards is into lyrics and melodies.
Frontman Kane explained that the Rascals do veer toward the darker side of things because they're not content to skate on the surface, preferring to delve into what lies beneath and picking up on elements not immediately perceived.
He elaborates by saying that the band likes to find the drama behind people, words and situations.
The Rascals play Doncaster Live in south Yorkshire on July 19th.
