Don't let the name fool you. Elle Milano is not a willowy songstress with a penchant for ethereal lyricism but a spiky three-piece rock-pop oufit based in Brighton.
Formed in 2004 at Leicester De Montfort University, the band are readying a two-pronged aural assault on Britain's ears with the release of their debut album and a single lifted from the LP.
The single, Meanwhile In Hollywood, is out on March 31st from Brighton Electric, and debut album Acres Of Dead Space Cadets follows on April 14th.
Elle Milano are Adam Crisp, James Headley and Chloe Joanna, and they produced their debut album themselves, aiming to capture that "band in a room" sensibility employed by the Pixies on Surfer Rosa or Nirvana's In Utero.
There's an Englishness to Elle Milano's sound that conjures up Blur, the Cure and PIL, thanks to Adam Crisp's vocals that echo John Lydon at times.
There's also an American influence that bubbles through Elle Milano's fiery guitars and seductive synths, evoking Wu Tang Clan, Michael Jackson and film soundtrack maestro Danny Elfman.
Elle Milano are touring the UK in April and May. The tour starts at London Islington Academy on April 2nd.
