Psych-rock trio Tame Impala unleash debut EP
Australian trio Tame Impala release their self-titled psych rock debut EP in the UK early next month.
The Tame Impala EP is out on December 1st from Modular Records, the forward-thinking label that has Ladyhawke, Cut Copy and New Young Pony Club on its books.
Tame Impala is made up of Kevin Parker, Dom Simper and Jay Watson. The trio are currently touring their native Oz.
The band's debut album is due to be released in Britain in spring 2009 with a slew of live dates to follow.
The EP boasts five psychedelic garage rock tracks opening with the Hawkwind-esque soundscape of Desire Be Desire Go.
Skeleton Tiger, the second number which is available as a download from the band's MySpace site, is a deliriously trippy Rick Wakeman-meets-the-Doors jaunt through the outer realms of prog rock weirdness.
If you listen intently you can be transported back to 1974 and experience outrageous stadium gigs with sound systems the size of a nuclear power station.
Track three, Half Full Glass Of Wine, brings back the garage rock stylings to great effect and capitalises on the synergy between the trio.
This tremendous number also taps into the aggressive proto-punk Britpop of the Kinks and the Who.
The fourth song on the EP is 41 Mosquitoes Flying In Formation and sounds like a long-lost Vietnam-era rocker, however, it has a grating quality that soon makes it outstay its welcome.
Track five Slide Through My Fingers is an ethereal number that exudes some brilliant Middle Eastern/Indian influences with out-there drumming and sizzlingly exotic guitar work.
