U2 lyrics 'best ever'
A lyric from U2's 1992 hit One has been voted Britain's top lyric in a song poll, it has been revealed.

The U2 lyric "One life, with each other sisters, brothers" was voted number one in a poll of 13,000 music fans, hotly followed by the Smiths' lyric "So you go on, and you stand on your own. And you leave on your own" from their song How Soon is Now?.

Grunge favourites Nirvana came in third with the line "I feel stupid and contagious, here we are now, entertain us" from seminal hit Smells Like Teen Spirit.

X Factor judge and Girls Aloud manager Louis Walsh said of the winning lyric: "One is a timeless classic song. I think the lyrics are just fantastic, one life - because everybody only has one life."

Favourites like Madonna, Bob Marley and Coldplay all featured in the list, which saw industry professionals as well as music lovers choose their favourite line.

Hot song line topics included love and loss as well as more off-the-wall subjects such as lager and LSD.
