Simpson drops Parton tribute

Friday, 22 Dec 2006 19:43
Jessica Simpson is said to idolise Dolly Parton
Jessica Simpson pulled out of a tribute to Dolly Parton after fluffing her lines, it has been revealed.

The buxom blonde figure was to sing 9 to 5 to the more legendary buxom blonde Parton at the show for the Kennedy Centre Honours.

But when it came to recording the show Simpson made mistakes with the words on her two attempts and asked for her contribution to be removed from the tape.

"She did want it to be perfect for Dolly, who she idolises," her spokeswoman said.

And George Stevens Jr, the programme's producer, commented: "We appreciate the time and energy Ms Simpson put into this event and respect the high standards she has for herself and that of the Kennedy Centre Honours."

Parton is one of five artists to be honoured by the institution for their contribution to the arts and American culture.

Other artists honoured alongside Parton are Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber, Zubin Mehta, Steven Spielberg and William "Smokey" Robinson.

The show – minus Simpson – will be shown on the US channel CBS on December 26th.End of story
