Rubbish job for Boy George
Boy George will soon be found picking up rubbish from the streets of New York under the terms of a community service order.
The former Culture Club singer pled guilty in March this year to reporting a false burglary at his Manhattan home. Rather than finding robbers, police called to the scene came across little else other than cocaine owned by the singer.
A five day stint of cleaning the streets must be undertaken by the end of August, and 45-year-old Boy George – real name George O'Dowd – has been issued with a shovel, broom, plastic bags and gloves.
"This is the epitome of community service. It's not like he's going to be working in an air-conditioned office," a spokesman for the sanitation department said.
If the singer fails to carry out the community service by the end of the month then he risks facing time in jail.
After becoming famous in the 1980s for his androgynous appearance and hits such as Karma Chameleon and Do You Really Want To Hurt Me?, Boy George has since battled with drugs problems.
