Queen win karaoke crown

Friday, 14 Dec 2007 15:35
Bohemian Rhapsody is the most played song since the launch of BBC Radio 1 in 1967.
Rock classic Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen has been named the number one karaoke song of all time, after a new poll.

The only single to have reached the UK Christmas number one spot twice, Bohemian Rhapsody pipped two efforts by Robbie Williams to the post, with Angels and Let Me Entertain You named the second and third most popular tracks for Britons to belt out at the karaoke bar.

And in the poll carried out by videogame store GAME, to coincide with the release of SingStar on PlayStation 3 and Boogie on PlayStation 2, party favourites such as I Will Survive by Gloria Gaynor, Cyndi Lauper's Girl's Just Wanna Have Fun and Uptown Girl by Billy Joel were included as other karaoke standards for British singers.

The poll also revealed the top five people with whom Britons would like to duet, with Queen frontman Freddie Mercury predictably the most popular.

But despite her youth, Smile singer Lily Allen was voted to be a more desirable singing partner than the esteemed likes of Elvis Presley, Kylie Minogue and Madonna.

The reasons for the host of delusional wannabes gracing talent shows like the X Factor were made evident by the poll, with a modest 36 per cent of respondents rating their own singing voices as "average" but a cocky 20 per cent considering their vocal talents to be "great".
