Tony Wilson died after battling cancer
The funeral for legendary music mogul Tony Wilson will take place in his hometown of Manchester today.

The Factory Records founder died from Cancer last week and his life will be celebrated at a ceremony at St Mary's Roman Catholic church in the city he helped to build into a thriving music scene.

Wilson discovered bands such as Joy Division, later to become New Order, and the Happy Mondays.

He also founded the legendary Hacienda nightclub in Manchester which hosted gigs from the likes of Madonna, Primal Scream and the Smiths.

His music career was turned into a film starring Steve Coogan called 24 Hour Party People.

Bands performing at V festival over the weekend dedicated songs to Wilson, including the Happy Mondays who he signed after seeing them come last in a battle of the bands contest.

Primal Scream also dedicated a track to the late music boss, with singer Bobby Gillespie saying he was a "big inspiration" for the band.
