Some 15 years after forming, Placebo have claimed their new album Battle for the Sun is their most positive record.
The album, their first in three years, saw personal and professional upheaval for the band, with drummer Steve Hewitt leaving in emotional circumstances and a long-standing contract with Virgin Records coming to an end.
But after appointing 22-year-old drummer Steve Forrest and self-funding the recording of Battle for the Sun, bassist Stefan Olsdal claims the band's sixth album is one of their best yet.
"I think it's just the sound of a band that's happy to be in a band again," he told inthenews.co.uk.
"Before, we were walking into the studio to write and you could cut the tension with a knife.
"It's a band wanting to expand and being free - we wrote more songs for this record than we have for any album in the past.
"With the change in personnel, all this pent-up creativity burst out."
Olsdal added: "There also things in the record that are more pop, more colourful and more optimistic than we've ever done."
Placebo's new album Battle for the Sun is released on June 8th.
