Kylie Minogue: Britney should reach out and get help

Kylie Minogue advises Britney Spears to "reach out" and seek help for her troubled mental state.
Pop star Kylie Minogue has advised Britney Spears to "reach out" and seek help for her troubled mental state.

A long-running custody dispute with ex-husband Kevin Federline, alleged drug problems and her hospitalisation following a public standoff with police have made Spears an almost-daily feature of the celebrity columns.

And according to Kylie, who shot to fame at a similarly young age as the Toxic star, the struggles of celebrity can be overwhelming.

"I wish someone would write a manual about fame because it's not easy," she told the Sun newspaper.

"I'm always loath to say that because there are a lot more difficulties out there that people deal with every day - but when fame is handed to you, it is unique."

The Australian pop pixie added: "It's not to the same extreme, but I can remember having a mini-meltdown myself - and unless you've got good people around to support you, you've got a problem."

Spears was recently photographed crying on the kerb outside her Los Angeles home following an argument with manager and confidante Sam Lufti and though her latest album Blackout was recently named international album of the year at the NRJ music awards in France, her musical career is at risk of being overshadowed by her apparent breakdown.

While Kylie has endured personal problems in the last year - overcoming breast cancer as well as breaking up with long-term boyfriend Olivier Martinez - she has remained firmly in the public's affections, unlike Spears.

"Who knows what is going on in her life? Britney isn't that young any more," Kylie commented.

"I think she will still come back but it's like she's taken an extended holiday. Whatever help she needs, she should reach out and get it."
