Mika tops iTunes chart

Wednesday, 12 Dec 2007 13:37
Mika's Grace Kelly tops iTunes single download chart for 2007
Grace Kelly by Mika has been named as the top-selling download single of the year by iTunes.

The Lebanese-born singer's second single outsold Rihanna's Umbrella – which went to number one in physical release charts across the world – and the Fray's How to Save a Life.

But Mika was denied a single and album chart double by Amy Winehouse, whose Back to Black album claimed the number one spot.

Life in Cartoon Motion was at number two, while the Arctic Monkeys' Favourite Worst Nightmare completed the top three.

This year's iTunes charts correlate more closely with the official UK versions after download sales were included for the first time this year.

The director of iTunes in Europe, Oliver Schusser, told inthenews.co.uk: "It's been a fantastic year for digital music, we now have more than six million songs on iTunes and I think the charts represent different flavours from different genres.

"It shows you how digital music has grown up."

The director added: "There are a lot of people who don't download or pay for music, but technology will come again and redefine it and we're looking forward to it."
