Film buffs all over the world will be delighted to hear the news that Madonna is to quit acting.
The singer, who has inflicted a number of monumental film flops on the world including Swept Away and The Next Best Thing, has announced that she will now focus her attentions on directing.
Stepping into her husband Guy Ritchie's shoes, Madonna hopes to emulate the success he achieved with the cult films Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch.
In an interview with the New York Post the singer said that directing would enable her creative juices to get flowing as it is more "visionary".
Brushing aside the role her lack of acting ability played in her movie flops, Madonna blamed film critics for the films' failure.
"Making movies for me was never about being a big movie star, it was about being a good actress," she said.
"But it's not easy with critics going after you before the movie is even released."
Despite rumours that her marriage with Ritchie is on the rocks, the singer hinted that the pair remained strong.
"Marriage is a contest of generosity, sometimes I lose, sometimes I win," she explained.
"But I'm still in the game and it has taught me the art of compromise and diplomacy."
Madonna is currently performing in the US on her Confessions tour, which kicked up shed loads of controversy during its UK leg after she emulated Jesus on a giant mirrored cross.
