Asteroid Galaxy Tour, Proud Galleries, July 24th
inthenews.co.uk's Orla Brady checks out the promising Scandinavians in north London.
From the onset of the gig in Camden, the Asteroid Galaxy Tour, with their larger-than-life name, was full of complete energy and inspiring warmth. Having only heard snippets of the band before and therefore attending the gig with no preconceptions, I was impressed at just how endearing they were from the start. The lead singer, Mette, introduced the band with charm and excellent stage presence.
They are a young band with a soulful backdrop to indie-rock. The incorporation of funk and soul throughout there set is given an enigmatic feel from Mette's distinctive voice. The bass and brass really add to a flavour of music which is very difficult to pigeon hole. A really refreshing feel emerges, in particular from songs such as The Golden Age, with its strong bass and insistent beat earmarking it as a possible pop hit this summer.
The Scandinavian appeal of Mette could lead them to be compared with such bands as the Cardigans however their originality on songs such as The Sun Ain't Shining No More would be more in line with quality songs from the B-52s.
The Asteroid Galaxy Tour are diverse and unique with the infectious ability to be a truly successful pop influence.
