LDN singer Lily Allen has said she's sure little brother Alfie's got what it takes for his biggest acting role yet, as she's seen it first-hand.

Alfie – immortalised in song by his sister on her debut album Alright, Still – is to take over from Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe in Peter Shaffer's play Equus.

And just like the young Hogwarts student, Alfie will be required to bear all on stage during the psychological drama.

However, the Smile star said she's sure her younger brother's up to the challenge.

Speaking at the UK premiere of her mother's – producer Alison Owen – new film Brick Lane, Lily said: "I've seen them before.

"He wanders around the house naked on Sunday mornings which is rather disgusting."

Lily and Alfie were joined at the West End premiere by actors Bill Nighy, Kate Ashfield and Richard Ayoade, as well as London mayor Ken Livingstone.

Alfie will star opposite Four Weddings and a Funeral actor Simon Callow in Equus, which will begin a nationwide tour in January, while Radcliffe is to reprise the lead role in the play on Broadway.

The show's producer David Pugh said Shaffer called to alert him of Alfie's talent after seeing the young actor in Joe Wright's Atonement, marking a happy end to an exasperating spell to find a replacement for Radcliffe.

"We interviewed a lot of TV actors," Mr Pugh told the Independent. "I spent four months auctioning 184 boys and we didn't know where to go. Then Peter Shaffer saw this young actor who he thought was really special.

"When we auditioned him, we all realised we had found a little gem," he explained.
