Lily Allen withdraws from Isle of Wight festival lineup

Wednesday, 05 Mar 2008 16:45
Organisers confirm Lily Allen has pulled out of the 2008 Isle of Wight festival.
Lily Allen has pulled out of the 2008 Isle of Wight festival, event organisers have confirmed.

It had been rumoured this week that the Smile star was to withdraw from the event due to plans to work on her second album, the follow-up to her debut smash Alright, Still.

And amid tabloid reports that the 22-year-old has been treated for depression since suffering a miscarriage, Isle of Wight festival organiser John Giddings has confirmed Allen's withdrawal.

"It's true, they [her representatives] have said she's not coming," he told Efestivals.co.uk.

"[They said] she hasn't delivered her record and I said I haven't booked a record, I've booked an artist.

"I think the poor girl has got a few problems," he added.

"Unfortunately England, although it produces good girl singer-songwriters, they don't seem to be capable of running the course."

Allen, the daughter of hell-raising actor Keith, claimed this week that she has been lonely since deciding to steer clear of the substance abuse problems rife in the music industry.

However, Giddings said he found Allen's departure from the 2008 bill - featuring the Police and Kaiser Chiefs - "very disappointing".

"These artists don't seem to have a responsibility to their audience," he went on.

"It's a good job she [Allen] pulled out now and not the day before. I wish her the best I hope she sorts herself out."
