Tickets for this summer's V Festival have sold out – just 90 minutes after being made available for sale.

Festival organisers said all 80,000 tickets for the August event had been snapped up within an hour and a half, which is half the amount of time they took to sell out last year.

Tickets are already appearing on auction website eBay for hundreds of pounds; although a small number of green transport-linked passes are still available on the festival's official site.

Festival director Bob Angus said: "We are chuffed to bits to sell out in just 90 minutes. It is testament to this year's great line up."

This year's V Festival, which began in 1996, will feature headline sets from Muse and the Verve at its twin venues in Chelmsford's Hylands Park, Essex, and Weston Park, Staffordshire.

Amy Winehouse – who pulled out of the 2007 event – the Stereophonics and Lenny Kravitz are also appearing during the two-day festival, which begins on August 16th.

They will be joined by a host of other artists including the Prodigy, Sugababes, Kings of Leon, the Kooks, Maximo Park, Newton Faulkner, Duffy and Amy Macdonald.
