Estelle's American Boy, featuring Kanye West, has knocked Mercy off the top spot in the UK singles chart after four weeks at number one.

The south London singer's new single entered the chart at number one to mark a triumphant return after four years had passed since the release of her debut smash 1980.

And with the help of Kanye West, Estelle has unseated Welsh chanteuse Duffy after month at the top of the UK singles chart.

Much of the top ten remained unchanged, with OneRepublic and Nickelback holding fourth and fifth spot respectively while former US number one Low by Flo Rida featuring T-Pain climbed one place to sixth.

Four Minutes, the new single from Madonna featuring Justin Timberlake and Timbaland was the next highest new entry in seventh while Utah Saints' Something Good '08 jumped one to eighth.

In the UK album chart, Duffy's debut Rockferry stayed at number one while Muse live album Haarp was the highest new entry in second.

The Seldom Seen Kid by Elbow entered at five, followed by Bryan Adams' 11 at six.

And new entries by Mike Oldfield - Music of the Spheres - and Van Morrison - Keep It Simple - rounded off the top ten.

The UK's top ten singles are:
