Best British single race hots up

Monday, 12 Feb 2007 15:28
Take That's Patience has made it onto the shortlist
Competition for the best British single accolade at this year's Brits awards has stepped up today as the final five acts shortlisted were announced.

Voting in the second round of the competition, which closed last night, removed James Morrison's You Give Me Something, Leona Lewis' A Moment Like This and Lily Allen's Smile from the running.

The five acts left with a chance of winning the award at this week's ceremony are Take That (Patience), The Feeling (Fill My Little World), Razorlight (America), Snow Patrol (Chasing Cars) and Will Young (All Time Love).

Who will win is to be decided by votes made via mobile phone texts during the ceremony, held on February 14th at London's Earls Court arena.

Outspoken comedian Russell Brand is to host the show and has declared his excitement at being "the ringleader of a carnival of mayhem".

It is the first time that the Brits has been shown live since the shambolic ceremony hosted by Samantha Fox and Mick Fleetwood in 1989.

Legendary group Oasis are to be handed an award for their outstanding achievement at the end of the evening, during which numerous bands and singers will perform, including Snow Patrol, Take That, The Scissor Sisters, Corinne Bailey Rae and The Killers.
