Neo-soul crooner Amy Winehouse will not be performing in the US and Canada this September due to the "rigours involved in touring".

Last week, the Rehab singer cancelled all her shows in August, including the V Festival, as she tries to recover from her substance abuse problems.

Winehouse's spokeswoman Tracy Miller said: "Due to the rigors involved in touring, Amy Winehouse has been advised to postpone her upcoming September US and Canadian tour dates.

"Amy's European and UK tour dates in October and November remain in place. Plans are being made to reschedule her US tour for early 2008," she said.

Miller added that the 23-year-old Camden crooner had been "ordered to rest" and was "working with medical professionals to address her health".

Previously, the heavily-tattooed Winehouse has cancelled performances at T in the Park, the Liverpool Summer Pops and the Oya music festival, citing exhaustion as the reason.

She has also pulled out of a Rolling Stones concert in Germany.

The troubled star is expected to perform at the MTV video music awards in September.

Winehouse's album Back to Black has achieved great success in the US and the UK and she has been nominated in three categories for the American music channel's award show.

It recently emerged that the star had admitted herself into an expensive rehabilitation centre in Essex to seek treatment for substance abuse problems.

The Rehab singer checked into the centre, which is based on an island, with her husband Blake Fielder.

Winehouse was recently discharged from a London hospital where she sought treatment for "severe exhaustion".
