Government to challenge Snoop Dogg's right to enter UK

Snoop Dogg's right to enter the UK to be challenged by government agency
Snoop Dogg's right to enter the UK is to be challenged by a government agency which opposes the rapper being granted a visa.

The Gin and Juice star - real name Calvin Broadus - was cautioned for affray at London's Heathrow airport in April 2006, when Snoop and his entourage vandalised a duty-free store by throwing whisky bottles after some members of the group had been denied entry to the British Airways first class lounge as they were flying in economy class.

The Home Office decided he should be banned from the UK in May 2006 and his visa request to enter the UK in March 2007 was rejected by local authorities due to the Heathrow incident, leading to the cancellation of four planned British concerts with P Diddy.

But he successfully appealed against the visa ban in January after an asylum immigration tribunal cleared the 36-year-old to enter the UK.

According to a Home Office spokesperson, the UK Border Agency opposes the decision and is to challenge the tribunal's ruling at a hearing later today.

"We are disappointed with the judge's decision in this case, and have challenged his decision," the spokesperson explained.

"It would not be appropriate to comment further while these proceedings are ongoing."

Speaking on CNN's Larry King Live in February, Snoop told UK fans he was coming back to the UK to "come give you all what you want".

The rapper was previously sentenced to five years of probation relating to gun and drug charges in April 2007 and was denied entry to Australia later that month, after the country's Department of Immigration and Citizenship cited concerns regarding his previous criminal convictions.

He had criticised the Home Office ban while presenting the MTV Europe Music Awards in Munich, Germany, last year, saying the UK has "judicial laws from the 1800s".End of story
