Ringo Starr has said he no longer has time to sign memorabilia or answer fan mail.

Speaking in a video message on his website, the former Beatles drummer said: "Please do not send fan mail to any address you have.

"Nothing will be signed after the 20th of October. If that is the date on the envelope, it's gonna be tossed.

"I'm warning you with peace and love I have too much to do," the 68-year-old added.

Clad in black, Starr said his speech was "a serious message to everybody watching".

"No more fan mail. Thank you, thank you. And no objects to be signed. Nothing," he remarked

The drummer, who divides his time between homes in Los Angeles, the south of France and Surrey, recently toured the US and Canada, promoting his latest solo album Liverpool 8.

However, he angered many on Merseyside when he told BBC1's Jonathan Ross there was "nothing" he missed about the north-west city.

A foliage sculpture of the rock star was beheaded by angry local vandals in response.
