Natalie Imbruglia has split from her husband Daniel Johns after four years of marriage, it has been confirmed.

The 32-year-old singer and her rock singer husband are to part due to work pressures, a joint press statement said.

"We want to make it clear that our parting is amicable and we remain friends," the pair added.

The former Neighbours actress met the Silverchair frontman in 1999, marrying him in 2003.

While Imbruglia has been largely based in the UK, Johns has lived mostly in Australia as he recovered from the effects of a severe bout of reactive arthritis.

"This mutual decision has not been taken lightly or quickly," they said.

"However, our career demands and our lives in different parts of the world have brought us to the point where unfortunately this difficult decision was necessary for both of us.

"We have simply grown apart through not being able to spend enough time together.

"We have issued this statement to set the record straight and to eliminate any need for speculation."

Imbruglia recently completed production on independent Australian movie Elise and is reported to have auditioned for a role in Wolverine, the upcoming film based on the Marvel Comics character.
