Arctics consider one-offs

The Arctic Monkeys are considering a move away from conventional album releases for 2008.

Drummer Matt Helders - a school friend of lead singer Alex Turner - said the Sheffield foursome may follow in the footsteps of indie forefathers like Oasis and release one-off singles.

He told BBC 6 Music: "We've got things written, several new ideas and new songs that are ready to record.

"We will do recording early on. We might not necessarily record and then release an album. We might just do little bits at once or [release] singles.

"There's really nothing planned. It just depends how it goes, which is a nice change. We can go into the studio and not necessarily have to have something done by, like, the end of the month.

"It'll be like, 'Just see what happens'."

New song Sandtrap - which the band played live for the first time in the UK while kicking off their UK tour at London's Alexandra Palace - is thought to be in contention for a one-off release.

Helders also revealed this week that the Fluorescent Adolescent band penned a song about controversial ITV1 talk-show host Jeremy Kyle while on their recent world tour.

Talking to the Big Issue, he said: "We had a power cut on the bus and while we were parked at the side of the road I got this acoustic guitar out.

"Some people were still in bed but we did this song for about six minutes about Jeremy Kyle. About this lie detector test."

The band's most recent album Favourite Worst Nightmare was recently named as one of the five best albums of 2007 by writers of music magazine NME.End of story
