Following the phenomenal success of their Matrix trilogy, the Wachowski brothers latetst and most impressive collaboration is the movie version of anime pioneer Tatsuo Yoshida's classic 1960s Speed Racer series. The high-octane adventure story follws young racecar driver Speed (played by Emile Hirsch) as he attempts to reach glory with the help of his family and the advanced Mach 5 car created by his father.
Born to race cars, Speed is the archetypal instinctive and fearless young racer only held back by the memory of his dead brother the legendary Rex Racer and his own desires to fill Rex's boots.
Turning down a lucrative offer from the established Royalton Industries, Speed not only infuriates the company's owner but reveals a corrupt and manipulation systems of race fixing to boost profits. If Speed won't race for Royalton he is in danger of seeing his career literally crash and burn.
