He has already won two Academy Awards and the hearts of movie goers around the world and now Tom Hanks has been declared the most trusted celebrity in America.
According to business magazine Forbes, Hanks is the most friendly and familiar celebrity currently working in Hollywood.
The actor, who has made audiences both weep and laugh in films such as Forrest Gump and Sleepless in Seattle, saw off many other big named stars such as Tom Cruise and Julia Roberts to take the number one spot.
American television star Rachael Ray took second place, while Michael J. Fox, of Spin City and Back to the Future, came in third.
Forbes interviewed Satoshi Kanazawa, an evolutionary psychologist at the London School of Economics, who said the list suggested that the public did not understand the concept of mass media.
"Our brain assumes that we are still living in the small hunter-gatherer bands we lived in more than 10,000 years ago," he explained.
"As a result, we assume any realistic images of human beings that we see repeatedly are real human beings.
"Our brain doesn't understand that these are actors playing roles on a drama or sitcoms, and we act as if they are trusted friends."
