Actors Chris Hemsworth and Clifton Collins Jr have been added to the cast of Lost creator JJ Abrams' new Star Trek movie, new reports claim.

According to Variety, 24-year-old Hemsworth is to play George Kirk, father of Captain James T Kirk (Chris Pine), in the 11th Star Trek film, which tells the tale of the Starfleet Academy days of Captain Kirk and the Starship Enterprise crew.

And Capote star Collins is to play the sidekick of Eric Bana's villainous Nero, joining an increasingly impressive lineup for the Christmas 2008 movie, penned by Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci.

Winona Ryder's casting as Amanda Grayson - the young human mother of Mr Spock (Zachary Quinto) - was confirmed at the weekend and Brit comedy star Simon Pegg is to play the young Scotty.

Lord of the Rings actor Karl Urban will take the role of Leonard 'Bones' McCoy, Harold and Kumar star John Cho will play Mr Sulu and relative newcomer Pine is to step into William Shatner's shoes as Captain James T Kirk.

The studio producing the film also held an open audition last weekend for people with "unique" features to appear in the upcoming film.

The release from Headquarters Casting said they were "especially seeking talent with interesting and unique facial features, such as long necks, small heads, extremely large heads, wide-set eyes, bug eyes, close-set eyes, large forehead, short upper lip, pronounced cheekbones, over or undersized ears and/or nose".

It added that people with "facial deformities, ultra plain-looking people, ultra perfect-looking people, pure wholesome looks, twins, triplets, emaciated talent, in addition to regally poised and postured talent", would also be considered.

"This is an epic project and we are looking for the most intriguing and interesting faces to integrate in this film," the invitation added.
