EA makes The Sims
Cult computer game franchise The Sims is soon to appear on the big screen after 20th Century Fox acquired the rights to the brand.
The Sims is a PC-based game which allows a player to control an animated character on screen as he/she goes about their daily lives.
Characters have an element of free will and engage in friendships and relationships with other in-game characters.
Rod Humble, the Sims studio chief, told Variety that the game concept could be easily transferred to movie format.
"The Sims has done an interactive version of an old story, which is what it's like to have infinite power and how do you deal with it.
"Given that that's an old story, you can imagine how easily that would translate to traditional story-telling."
Bryan Lynch will be writing the script for the movie, having previously worked on Big Helium Dog and Scary Movie 3.
The film will be a live-action version of the game, which has been one of the highest-grossing game franchises of all time.
