Amy Adams is to star alongside Ben Stiller in a sequel to Night at the Museum, reports claim.
According to trade newspaper Variety, the Enchanted star will play an "undetermined" historical figure in Night at the Museum 2: Escape from the Smithsonian, a follow-up to the hugely successful 20th Century Fox comedy.
The sequel will see artefacts from the Museum of Natural History in New York City sent to the Smithsonian Institute in Washington DC, with an assortment of characters likely to wreak the same havoc to which they subjected security guard Larry (Ben Stiller) in the first movie.
Adams' as-yet-unnamed character will play a historical figure with a crush on Larry in the sequel, scheduled for a May 22nd, 2009 release.
Shawn Levy is to return in the director's chair, while screenwriters Robert Ben Garant and Thomas Lennon have again scripted the museum-based comedy.
Though the ongoing writers' strike means 1492 Pictures is unable to name an exact start date, it is believed shooting will start in Vancouver this May, with Levy's 21 Laps company producing alongside Michael Barnathan and Mark Radcliffe.
Golden Globe-nominated for her turn in Disney's Enchanted, Adams can currently be seen in political satire Charlie Wilson's War while the 33-year-old actress stars alongside Alan Arkin and Emily Blunt in indie comedy Sunshine Cleaning, which recently debuted at the Sundance film festival.
