Plans for the next movies in the Chronicles of Narnia franchise have been outlined by Walden Media president Cary Granat.
Talking to Variety, Granat revealed the schedule that Walden hopes will retain Narnia's place in the battle for fantasy franchise domination.
With the cinematic adaptation of Philip Pullman's peerless His Dark Materials trilogy looking likely to follow in Lord of the Rings' lead as the one franchise to rule them all, the next Narnia movie - the already-in-production Prince Caspian - faces a stiff battle to keep CS Lewis' works at the top of the box office charts.
"'Narnia' is a curse and a blessing in that it's really set the bar high for us," Granat admitted, with The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe taking over £350 million worldwide.
However, as well as confirming release dates for Prince Caspian and third movie, The Voyage of the Dawn Treader - May 16th, 2008 and May 7th, 2010, respectively - Granat hinted that there's some room for movement in continuing the franchise.
Though Walden could produce a seven-movie series, Granat has only committed publicly to four or five pictures, and told Variety that The Silver Chair is the most likely fourth film.
While he made the rather-obvious comment that "there are a lot of stories to be taken from the books", it seems most likely that film five will be The Magician's Nephew, meaning that The Horse and His Boy and The Last Battle might never make the silver screen.
