The National Enquirer is in hot water again after it was forced to pay damages to Kate Hudson for pictures and an article which suggested that she had an eating disorder.

Photos of the actress were run in an issue of the magazine last October under the headline Goldie Tells Kate: Eat Something!

It claimed that the star was "painfully thin" and that her mother, film legend Goldie Hawn had begged her to eat more.

Yet the actress' mother told lawyers that she has "never had any concerns about her daughter's appearance whatsoever".

After asking for an apology and not receiving one, Hudson then decided to sue the magazine for suggesting that she had "recklessly and foolishly endangered her health by deliberately starving herself".

Matters were made worse by the fact that the magazine had published photos of the actress, who shot to fame with her role in Almost Famous, just a few weeks before describing her as "looking great" and "stunning".

After winning the case, the National Enquirer now has to pay the star undisclosed damages as well as printing an apology.

It's the second time in a week that it has had to apologise to a major celebrity; Britney Spears forced it through the courts to print a retraction saying that her marriage was not on the rocks as it had claimed.
