Horton Hears A Who! remains on top in US box office

Jim Carrey has reason to be happy as his film remains top of the charts
The animated film Dr Seuss' Horton Hears A Who! has remained on top at the US box office for the second week in a row.

The movie, featuring the voices of Jim Carrey and Steve Carell, took $25.1 million (£12.7 million) last week and managed to hold off a number of new releases over the Easter weekend.

Meet the Browns, the comedy directed by Tyler Perry released on Friday, charted second taking $20 million (£10.1 million) in its opening weekend.

Horror remake Shutter, starring Joshua Jackson and Rachael Taylor, also released on Friday, made $10.7 million (£5.39 million).

Owen Wilson comedy Drillbit Taylor was the fourth highest grossing film taking $10.2 million (£5.14 million).

The prehistoric adventure 10,000 BC made up the top five films after taking $8.7 million (£4.4 million).

Never Back Down and College Road Trip were sixth and seventh in the US chart and Jason Statham's The Bank Job was eighth.

Vantage Point, the thriller starring Dennis Quaid and Forrest Whitaker came in ninth and new release La Misma Luna (Under The Same Moon) charted in tenth.

The new release took $2.6 million (£1.3 million) breaking the US box office record for an opening weekend of a Spanish language film. End of story
