The Times BFI 52nd London Film Festival is to include a record 24 free screening events, it has been confirmed.

As well as exclusive workshops in animation and filmmaking and a scriptwriting master class, this year's event also features a 'Film Funday Workshop' for families and a screening of new French movie Mia and the Migou.

The screening is to be followed by an interactive event encouraging children to find creative ways to combat global warming, while Icelandic picture Network will be followed by a lesson in survival skills by a real arctic explorer.

London plays host to the European premiere of The Secret of Moonacre, this year's 'Family Gala' film and an adaptation of Elizabeth Goudge’s popular children's book The Little White Horse.

The Gabor Csupo movie stars Ioan Gruffudd, Dakota Blue-Richards and Juliet Stevenson.

Justin Johnson, the festival's programme advisor for young audiences, said the 52nd event will showcase some of the best animated and live-action titles for children from across the globe.

"After the success of our monthly Family Fundays at BFI Southbank, we are delighted that this initiative will continue with our screening of Mia and the Migou," he added.

"For some of our subtitled films, we will have the story read out via headphones to ensure that our younger audiences don't miss out on the fun.

"Directors and actors will be present at a number of the screenings to meet the audience and answer their questions - so there really is something for everyone."

The Times BFI 52nd London Film Festival takes place from October 15th until October 30th at cinemas across the capital.
