The 40-year-old Virgin and Wedding Crashers have proved to be the pick of the year's films according to the MTV Movie Awards nominations announced last night.
The comedy couple each collected five nominations and will go up against each other in, among other categories, the best movie prize. King Kong, Sin City and Batman Begins also make up this category.
Steve Carell, the star of The 40-year-old Virgin, is up for the best performance honour, as are Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon (both Walk the Line), Jake Gyllenhaal (Brokeback Mountain), Rachel McAdams (Red Eye), and Terrence Howard (Hustle & Flow).
Carell is also up for best comedic performance but will face strong competition from Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn (both Wedding Crashers), Adam Sandler (The Longest Yard), and Tyler Perry (Madea's Family Reunion).
Arguably the most important award of the night, the sexiest performance, will see favourite Jessica Alba (Sin City) take on Beyonce Knowles (The Pink Panther), Jessica Simpson (The Dukes of Hazzard), Ziyi Zhang (Memoirs of a Geisha), and, wait for it, Rob Schneider (Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo). Erm, right.
The 2006 MTV Movie Awards will be held on Thursday June 8th.
