Bloom cleared over hit-and-run

Saturday, 27 Oct 2007 16:28
Orlando Bloom will not face charges over road collision in Los Angeles
Orlando Bloom has been cleared by US prosecutors over any potential hit-and-run and drink driving charges after a collision earlier this month.

The British actor had been involved in a crash in Los Angeles after being chased by paparazzi, but American officials said there was not enough evidence to prosecute.

"There was insufficient evidence [that] he was trying to get away," said Jane Robinson, spokeswoman for the LA county district attorney.

Lord of the Rings star Bloom was found not to have been under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the incident, which took place after he left a nightclub in the early hours of October 12th.

The 30-year-old, who has also appeared in Pirates of the Caribbean, Troy and Kingdom of Heaven, told police he had swerved and hit a parked car after being pursued by four paparazzi when leaving the club.

Two of Bloom's passengers were injured in the incident, while the actor was seen to walk about 20m away from the scene before returning.

He later told police he had been dazed.End of story
