Actors Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynolds are engaged, it has been confirmed.

After a year of dating, the pair have announced their engagement, People magazine reports.

And the Lost in Translation star's representative Marcel Pariseau told the magazine the couple are "both thrilled".

The actress' debut album Anywhere I Lay My Head, a collection of Tom Waits covers, is released on May 20th and she will next be seen alongside Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem in Vicky Cristina Barcelona, her third collaboration with Woody Allen.

Definitely, Maybe star Reynolds, 31, and Johansson began dating in February 2007, shortly after the actor had broken off his engagement with Alanis Morissette.

He is currently working on comic book spin-off X-Men Origins: Wolverine alongside Hugh Jackman, who recently gave his blessing to the couple, having worked with Johansson in Scoop.

"Ryan is one of the funniest guys I've ever met," he told In Touch magazine.

"And we had a really good chat about his girlfriend, because I'm very fond of Scarlett, and both my wife and I are very protective of Scarlett.

"He got a big thumbs up from me," the Australian actor added.

Johansson, 23, could be seen sporting a diamond-encrusted ring on her left hand at the Metropolitan Museum Costume Institute Gala in New York City on Monday night.
