Alec Baldwin reveals political ambitions

Alec Baldwin said he would like to go into politics
Hollywood actor Alec Baldwin could take a break from shooting films to try his hand at politics, he has revealed.

In an interview to be aired on US television tomorrow, the 50-year-old said he is tempted to fulfil a long-term ambition and become a politician.

"There's other things I want to do [besides acting]," Baldwin told 60 Minutes.

"There's no age limit on running for office, to a degree. [It is] something I might do one day."

It is not the first time the actor has expressed his desire to swap tinsel town for Capitol Hill.

In 2006 he told the New York Times that if he were a public official he would like to be governor of his home state of New York.

Baldwin, who rose to fame with roles in Working Girl and The Hunt for Red October, also spoke to 90 Minutes about his divorce and custody battle with actress Kim Basinger.

A voicemail in which he called his daughter a "thoughtless little pig" hit the headlines in 2007 and Baldwin said his main concern has been on the fall out for his daughter.

"If you go through the things I have gone through with the media like this thing with my daughter, there's only one thing that comes to mind initially - that is how my daughter must have felt to have this played out in public," he admitted.
