Scarlett is hardly off screens this year and next
Scarlett Johansson has signed up for yet another historical role.
The 21-year-old actress is to play Mary Queen of Scots in a historical drama about her fraught relationship with Queen Elizabeth I during the 16th century.
Scarlett is no stranger to period dramas as in 2003 she won critical acclaim and a Golden Globe nomination for her role in the 17th century drama Girl With a Pearl Earring.
She is also due to begin shooting scenes in the UK this autumn for the Tudor epic The Other Boleyn Girl alongside Natalie Portman.
A director has yet to be found for the Queen Mary film, although shooting is expected to start at the end of summer next year.
Scarlett has rarely been away from film headlines this summer; she was one of the undisputed darlings of the Venice Film Festival last month for her role in The Black Dahlia and she is due to appear in Woody Allen's latest film, Scoop, later this year.
And if that's not enough, she is also due to appear alongside Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman in The Prestige.
