Scarlett Johansson has spoken of the need for all people to take their sexual health seriously.
The actress, currently starring in The Black Dahlia, told US magazine Allure that she gets tested for the disease as "one has to be socially aware".
"It's part of being a decent human to be tested for STDs [sexually transmitted diseases]. It's just disgusting behaviour when people don't. It's so irresponsible," she said.
Johansson is currently dating fellow actor Josh Hartnett and confessed to the magazine that she could understand why people stray in relationships.
"I do think on some basic level we are animals, and by instinct we kind of breed accordingly," she said.
However, Johansson denied that she is promiscuous, saying: "There does seem to be a mistaken belief out there that I am sexually available somehow. But I work really hard when I'm in a relationship to make it work in a monogamous way."
Praising Hartnett, who stars opposite her in The Black Dahlia, she added: "He's a good boy. A great person. I'm very lucky and I'm very happy."
Johansson looks set to remain on screens for the foreseeable future, with roles lined up in The Nanny Diaries and The Other Boleyn Girl among others.
