It's been a week of getting ready in the music world. Artists have been preparing to release debut singles, go on tours, play surprise gigs and - if you're the Scissor Sisters - stay at number one.
Damon Albarn's new band, The Good, The Bad and the Queen, released details of their debut single earlier this week. The group, which include former Clash bassist Paul Simonon, are putting out Herculean on October 30th and could be found on Tuesday 26th gearing up support for the release by playing a gig at the Roundhouse in London.
From a slightly different genre of the popular music world, Beyonce unveiled with her customary grace the dates for her new tour this week. She will be promoting her new album, B'Day, in several countries on the continent including Germany, Belgium, France, Spain and Italy, before finishing up with five UK dates starting on June 1st.
Meanwhile, London gig lovers were looking forward to a surprise performance by indie outfit Dirty Pretty Things tonight at the Proud Galleries venue in Camden. The band, led by Carl Barat, are trying to get in some practice ahead of a heavy touring schedule during November and December.
In both the album and singles charts it's been the Scissor Sisters who've ruled the roost. Their current album, Ta-dah, shot to the top while their single, I Don't Feel Like Dancin', has been number one for three weeks now.
The latter will be looking to make it a fourth come the charts on Sunday. Perhaps its continuing success was partly because last week's chart was bereft of fresh blood, with the highest new entry, Call On Me by Janet Jackson and Nelly, only managing to reach a paltry number 18.
The 'Sisters face a fair amount of opposition this week, however, with new releases from and My Chemical Romanceboth hoping to reach the top spot.
