Coldplay's new single available from 12:15 BST on Tuesday April 29th
Coldplay have announced they are to give fans the chance to download their new single for free.

An announcement on the band's website heralded the download opportunity, which will allow fans a week-long chance to download Violet Hill, the first single from their upcoming album Viva La Viva.

And the British four-piece have also announced plans to give away tickets to two free concerts in June.

"From Tuesday, 12:15 UK time, for one week only you can come here to download a free copy of a new song called Violet Hill," read today's announcement on Coldplay.com.

Violet Hill will receive a normal digital release on May 6th, while Viva La Vida, their fourth album, is due to hit UK shelves on June 12th.

The single will also be given away with a vinyl seven-inch single on May 7th with NME magazine, with a B-side entitled A Spell A Rebel Yell included.

The Fix You stars have also confirmed they are planning a free concert at London's Brixton Academy on Monday June 16th and at Madison Square Garden in New York on June 23rd, with details of how to win tickets soon to be published on the band's website.

The official tracklisting for Viva La Vida, the alternative title of which is Death And All His Friends, was revealed earlier this month on Coldplay.com.

Viva La Vida tracklisting is as follows:
