Toxic star Britney Spears continued her path to recovery with a well-received performance at the Bambi awards in Germany on Thursday night.

Clad in hot pants, fishnet tights and a top hat - an outfit similar to that currently worn by her idol Madonna - Britney performed her hit Womanizer.

She then accepted the media prize in the Pop International category from fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld, who said the formerly troubled singer had returned to the limelight "not only as a phoenix but as a bird of paradise".

Other stars honoured at the Offenburg ceremony included Meg Ryan, Keanu Reeves and Leona Lewis, who won the Shooting Star award.

It was announced earlier this week that Britney will perform two concerts at London's O2 Arena as part of her world tour.

Speaking on GMTV, her mother Lynne Spears said the 26-year-old's public breakdown was behind her and she would soon be topping the charts again.

"We're going to get this done and it's all going to be good. You just wait and see," she told Lorraine Kelly.

Though her gigs at the O2 will be the only European stops on her 2009 tour, she will give her first performance on British TV for five years on the X Factor this weekend.

"She is such a sweet, endearing person. It will be nice to reconnect," said her former choreographer and X Factor dance svengali Brian Friedman.

"Last year, I asked her to come and do X Factor but she was too hectic. This year it's happening. I'm so glad to see her back on track. Her performance is going to be incredible."
