Trisha Goddard being treated for breast cancer
Talkshow host Trisha Goddard is being treated for breast cancer, her husband has confirmed.

The Five presenter is to take a two-week break from her show after a lump was discovered during a routine mammogram last month.

Her husband Peter Gianfrancesco said: "She may possibly need, or choose to have, chemotherapy.

"We are both stressed and exhausted from the stress and worry, but are trying to deal with this one step at a time," he added.

Following the discovery of the lump, a tumour was removed immediately and lymph nodes were sent for testing, with initial results showing a positive prognosis, a spokesman explained.

However, the 50-year-old presenter received a detailed report on Saturday which showed a micro cancer cell present in one of the nodes, necessitating the scheduling of a second operation.

Gianfrancesco, who lives with Goddard and their two children Billie, 18, and Madison, 13, in Norfolk, said his wife had to wait for the results of the second set of tests.

"We hoped that we could handle with this in private, but following a number of inquiries from newspapers, we thought it best to put the record straight," he added.

"We ask that everyone respects our privacy during this difficult time, allowing us to focus on supporting my wife's recovery."

The mother-of-two worked in Australia for 13 years as a TV journalist and government adviser on mental health before following a six-year stint with the UK's ITV1 with a move to Five.
