Watson is now recovering from his operation
Opera singer Russell Watson was forced to have an emergency operation to remove a brain tumour earlier this week, it has been revealed today.
Watson flew across the Atlantic so that surgeons in London could remove the tumour, thought to be around eight centimetres in size.
A statement issued on Watson's website today said that the operation had been a "complete success".
"Britain’s top neurosurgeon, Dr Henry Marsh, oversaw the procedure and is confident of a full recovery," it added.
Watson was recording for his latest album, Love Affair, in the famous Capitol Studios in Los Angeles when he "developed excruciating headaches and impaired vision" which forced him to visit a doctor.
He was forced to endure an agonising two-day wait before medical experts were able to establish whether or not the tumour was benign or malignant, spending the time continuing recording in the studio.
Watson's website said that he had been under significant "pain and stress" during this two-day period, having to endure being filmed by GMTV while recording.
The 39-year-old, who began his working life in the less glamorous manufacturing sector as a factory worker, has released five albums in his singing career.
His next record's release will be delayed until early next year.
