Cage accepts Turner apology after 'drunk dog-theft claims'

Nicolas Cage wins public apology from Kathleen Turner over memoir claims
Nicolas Cage has accepted a public apology from fellow actor Kathleen Turner after she claimed he had been arrested for drink-driving and stealing a Chihuahua.

Neither Hollywood star was at the high court in London to hear the judge rule in favour of Oscar-winner Cage.

The defamation, libel and slander action was brought in the UK after extracts of Turner's memoir Send Yourself Roses: My Life, Love and Leading Roles were published in the Daily Mail.

The newspaper and the actress, as well as British publisher Headline, have made a substantial donation to Cage's National Adult Protective Services Foundation.

Both the Mail and Headline will also publish apologies over the matter.

Cage launched the action after Turner claimed the actor had been arrested during the filming of Peggy Sue Got Married in 1986.

But the 44-year-old's UK legal representative Simon Smith said his client had never been arrested, especially not for "drink driving [or] dog theft".

Cage was "extremely pleased" at today's ruling, the lawyer revealed.

"As an actor who stars in many family-friendly films and who has a young child and teenager of his own, Mr Cage was understandably upset at having been wrongly depicted as condoning that sort of reckless, dangerous and criminal behaviour," he added.End of story
