Arctic Monkeys: Almost old enough to be students themselves
They may confuse Gordon Brown, but Arctic Monkeys can at least celebrate their debut single being named as the best student anthem of all time.
The Sheffield foursome's I Bet You Look Good on the Dance Floor received the accolade from music mag NME's student guide.
The majority of the top ten all predictably hail from the 21st century, with Las Vegas-based The Killers in second place with Mr Brightside.
Another northern band doing well in the poll of 200 students DJs was the Kaiser Chiefs, with I Predict a Riot at three, while the repetitive drones of Franz Ferdinand secured them fourth spot.
Dan Silver, editor of the NME student guide, said: "It's no surprise that Arctic Monkeys have taken the top spot - I Bet You Look Good on the Dance Floor is a worthy winner always guaranteed to pack any student union bar with revellers.
"It's great to see some old classics can still work their magic too."
