Leona Lewis, the winner of this year's X Factor, could be heading for the Christmas number one single, according to industry figures.
A Moment Like This, originally sung by Kelly Clarkson, went on sale in stores today.
It has so far been downloaded 100,000 times, beating Gnarls Barkley's Crazy as the biggest-selling download of the year.
Leona now looks set to overtake the success of last year's X Factor winner Shayne Ward, who managed to shift 732,000 copies of his single That's My Goal.
"Leona should match if not overtake Shayne Ward's sales," said HMV spokesman Gennaro Castaldo.
"Nearly five million votes were cast for her in the [X Factor] final and you have to assume a good proportion of those viewers will buy the single in the run-up to Christmas."
Other artists hoping to claim the Christmas number one include Girls Aloud, female classical cross-over group All Angels, and McFly.
