Will and Grace bow out
Popular US sitcom Will And Grace saw the airing of its last ever season finale last night to an audience as large as it was sentimental.
Despite struggling in its final series the finale pulled in over 8.1 million viewers keen to say goodbye to one of NBC's most popular ever situation comedies.
For 194 episodes over eight years the show's depiction of friendships between two gay men and two straight women wowed audiences, but it all came to a "sappy" end last night as the show's landmark run finally came to the end of the line.
"We have never taken ourselves or this show too seriously but now that it's over I take our collective achievement very, very seriously," said Eric McCormack, who plays Will, in an interview broadcast before the finale.
Co-star Sean Hayes, who played Jack, said: "I'm proud of being a part of something in history and I'm proud to have been given a platform to make people laugh."
Will And Grace is the last survivor of the particularly rich vein struck by NBC's sitcom department in the 1990s, with other favourites in their stable including Seinfield and Friends.
The American broadcasting giant recently announced that Friends spin-off Joey, starring Matt LeBlanc, would not be commissioned for a third season.
