Richard and Judy 'don't speak'

Richard and Judy 'don't speak'
Countdown host Des Lynam shocked his studio audience last week with disparaging remarks about his daytime colleagues Richard and Judy.

The usually smooth-talking presenter told the 100-strong audience at a recording of Countdown that the married couple actually hated each other, the Mail on Sunday reported.

Speaking off-air, Des held up a copy of the Radio Times and said he thought Richard Madeley and Judy Finnigan were lovely but didn't like each other.

Despite nervous laughter from the audience and numerous attempts by co-host Carol Vorderman to change the subject, Des insisted on asking the rest of the Countdown presenters to confirm what he had said.

"Carol and I are on the front page of the Radio Times," he told the audience. "We're on there with Richard and Judy. Lovely couple, wonderful programme. But they hate each other. In the whole hour that we were with them they never said a word."

When nobody confirmed the remarks, Des went on: "Richard and Judy hate each other. It's true. You've met them haven't you Carol? They don't speak."

But when asked about his comments by the newspaper, Des said he had only been "fooling around".

Richard Madeley said: "He's obviously joking."track End of story
